Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply is asking some of its North Kohala customers to limit their water use to essential needss only overnight Thursday this week because of a scheduled power outage.

The areas affected include:

  • Kohala Mountain Road (Highway 250) between mile marker 18 and Hāwī.
  • Portions of Kamalei Place, Pu‘u Mamo Drive, Beers Road, Kūkini Place, Kainoa Road, ‘Āina U‘i Road, Iki Road, Kama Loop, Keahipoe Place, Red Cinder Road and Ka‘auhuhu Homestead Road.

Furthermore, customers on the upper portion of Ka‘auhuhu Homestead Road to Kohala Mountain Road, ‘Āina U‘i Road, Iki Road, Beers Road and in the Maliu Ridge Subdivision should prepare for no water during this power outage.

Those customers are advised to set aside drinking water in preparation for the temporary outage.

Limiting water use in the impacted areas to just drinking, cooking and hygiene needs from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday (June 26-27) is necessary because Hawaiian Electric has a planned overnight power outage Thursday to perform system maintenance and upgrades.

Department of Water Supply pumping equipment relies on Hawaiian Electric’s power and will not be able to operate during the scheduled power outage.

A temporary water spigot will be set up on a fire hydrant located near the Ka‘auhuhu transfer station for the public’s use during the power outage.
