Update: High surf advisory cancelled for the south shores of Hawaiʻi Island today

Update at 10:30 a.m. Sunday: The National Weather Service has cancelled the high surf advisory for south facing shores of Kaʻū, North Kona, Puna and South Kona.

Above average surf will continue along south facing shores, but will remain below advisory thresholds. 

Original post at 5 p.m. Friday: A high surf advisory is in place starting at 6 a.m. Saturday for all south-facing shores for the Hawaiian Islands.

According to the National Weather Service, a moderate south to southwest swell (200 degrees) will bring advisory-level surf for North Kona, South Kona, Ka‘ū and Puna Districts until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Surf heights are expected to be 7 to 10 feet.

Impacts are expected to be moderate with strong-breaking waves and currents that will make swimming dangerous.
