Judge maintains bail on Hilo woman facing drug, vehicle theft charges
A Hilo District Court judge maintained a $93,000 bail on a woman facing drug and vehicle theft charges.
Sommer Lopez, 45, of Hilo, was taken into custody on May 19 at the Puna Kai Shopping Center in Pāhoa. She was charged in connection with the theft of a Ford F-150 pickup truck, originally reported stolen from a Hawaiian Paradise Park residence on May 15.
Lopez is facing a myriad of charges, with the most serious of them being first-degree theft, which is a class B felony carrying a maximum penalty of a 10-year prison term.
Lopez is also facing first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, driving without a license, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
Lopez made her initial appearance in in Hilo District Court this afternoon. Her bail was maintained and she was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 23.
If convicted as charged, Hawai‘i County prosecutors have provided notice that Lopez may be subject to a mandatory prison term and not eligible for probation.
