One person’s remains were discovered in a mobile home that was destroyed in a fire in South Kona.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze Sunday at 9:55 p.m. in Captain Cook on the 89-0700 block of Lani Kona Road. When they arrived on scene, crews found a 30-foot-by-8-foot trailer mounted mobile home parked in an open lot engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to nearby brush. With no fire hydrants in the area, water was provided by Engine 20 and Tanker 20.

The fire was out by 10:40 p.m. Through the course of stamping out the flames, crews discovered one person’s remains within the trailer.
