Community shows ‘unwavering support’ for University of Hawaiʻi, donating more than $800K on Giving Day
University of Hawai‘i’s Giving Day again demonstrated the power of collective generosity as donors throughout Hawaiʻi and beyond came together to support the university’s students, faculty and programs at all 10 of its campuses statewide.

The 24-hour fundraising event April 9 inspired an overwhelming response and raised more than $800,000 from 1,800-plus gifts, representing a 36% increase compared with last year’s gift amount of $593,000.
The contributions affirmed the essential role that all disciplines and campuses play in advancing knowledge, fostering creativity and building stronger communities throughout the islands.
“This success highlights the vital role of philanthropy in helping us continue our mission of educational excellence,” said University of Hawaiʻi President Wendy Hensel. “Our students and faculty are at the heart of everything we do, and their success is made possible through the unwavering support of our community.”
In addition to monetary contributions, Giving Day also saw increased participation from University of Hawaiʻi alumni.
Many shared stories about their experiences while attending the university and how it shaped their careers and lives.
The day was filled with a sense of community, pride and a shared commitment to the university’s future.
“I believe this tremendous outpouring of support reflects our community’s deep recognition of the essential role the University of Hawaiʻi plays in developing the programs and research that are most critical to our state’s future,” said University of Hawaiʻi Foundation Chief Executive Officer Tim Dolan, who is also vice president of advancement for University of Hawaiʻi. “Some of our partners are already asking about next year’s Giving Day.”
