A high surf warning for the main Hawaiian Islands has been downgraded to an advisory, extended until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, the current large long period north swell (340-360 degrees) will continue to produce advisory level surf along exposed north-, east- and west-facing shores through early Tuesday morning.

Surf heights will fall below advisory thresholds on Tuesday as the north swell continues to decline slowly.

Large breaking waves of 18 to 22 feet along exposed north-facing shores are expected, and 8 to 12 feet along exposed east-facing shores.
