High surf advisory for Big Island’s west-facing shores canceled
7:15 a.m. update on March 25: The high surf advisory has been canceled.
3:47 p.m. update on March 24: The high surf advisory for west-facing shores on Hawai‘i Island has been extended through Tuesday at 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a large to extra large long-period northwest (310-330 degrees) swell will hold this evening, and then slowly ease tonight through midweek, falling below advisory levels later on Tuesday.
Surf of 6 to 8 feet is expected.
Original post: A high surf advisory is in place for Hawai‘i Island’s west-facing shores till Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a large to extra large long-period northwest (310-330 degrees) swell will peak this morning into early afternoon, then gradually ease tonight through midweek. Shorelines affected stretch from North and South Kohala to North and South Kona Districts.
Surf of 8 feet is expected along with strong breaking waves and currents. Conditions will make swimming dangerous.
