Young Brothers modifies some sailing schedules because of inclement weather
Impacts from the major winter storm that started moving through Hawai‘i on Thursday and continues to bring high winds, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms to parts of the state today are causing shipping company Young Brothers to change some of its sailing schedules.
Honolulu to Kawaihae (Big Island, west), sailing Thursday: Departed
Estimated time of arrival at Kawaihae Harbor on the west side of the Big Island is 7:30 a.m. today. No changes to cargo availability.
Honolulu to Nāwiliwili, sailing Thursday: Delayed
Updated arrival times at Nāwiliwili Small Boat Harbor on Kaua‘i will be announced this morning.
Honolulu to Kahului (Maui, northeast), sailing Thursday: Delayed
Weather conditions in Honolulu Harbor continued to deteriorate Thursday. In addition, conditions at the Port of Kahului were forecast to deteriorate today as the storm continues to pass the Hawaiian Islands.
For the safety of Young Brothers employees, its vessels and your cargo, the barge is expected to depart today from Honolulu and should arrive at 7 a.m. Saturday in Kahului.
The port will have special gate hours from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, with cargo availability as follows:
- Dry and refrigerated straightload containers: Upon discharge.
- Refrigerated loose and palletized cargo: Upon notification.
- Dry palletized and mixed cargo: 7:30 a.m. Feb. 3.
- Automobiles and roll-on/roll-off cargo: Upon notification.
The Port of Kahului will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today.
The shipping company also modified its acceptance at all ports and harbors for the following cargo:
- No acceptance of livestock or dry or refrigerated palletized, mixed or loose hazardous material cargo, except for medical supplies.
Young Brothers continues to monitor the storm and will make every effort to complete sailings as scheduled. Further information will be provided as the company receives updated weather forecasts.
