Hawai‘i County Department of Environmental Management announce that metal and appliance recycling services resumed at all East Hawai‘i transfer stations following the reopening of Big Island Scrap Metal, the county’s contracted recycling partner, in the W.H. Shipman Business Park.

Metal and appliance recycling services were shuttered Wednesday at transfer stations in Honokaʻa, Laupāhoehoe, Volcano, Pāhala and Waiʻōhinu after the Kea‘au scrap metal business suffered a large industrial fire.

The county Environmental Management Department appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during the temporary disruption of services.

Contact Environmental Management at 808-961-8270 or via email at cohdem@hawaiicounty.gov for any recycling questions.
