High wind warning issued for Big Island summits

A high wind warning is in effect for Big Island summits from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, northeast winds of 50 to 60 mph with gusts up to 75 mph are expected.

Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The public should take necessary precautions to protect property. Travel to summit areas should be delayed until winds subside.
