Possible drowning in Kealakekua Bay under investigation
Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a possible drowning after an unidentified 29-year-old woman wearing a mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit was found Sunday morning floating face down in the waters of Kealakekua Bay.
Hawai‘i Police Department Kona patrol officers responded just before 10:30 a.m. to the incident.
Bystanders had already pulled the woman out of the water, placed her onto a paddle board and immediately began performing CPR.
A nearby boat picked up the unidentified woman and transported her to land, continuing CPR until medics arrived.
Hawai‘i Fire Department personnel transported the woman to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman remains unidentified.
Hawai‘i Police Department initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
