Get into the spirit of the haunting holiday at these Oct. 28 Halloween events
Halloween events continue around the Big Island as the haunting holiday draws near.
The Kings’ Shops in Waikōloa invite guests to test their wits with spooky quizzes and puzzles throughout Halloween Week as part of The Great Escape with the Hawai‘i Keiki Museum.
Pāhoa Public and School Library is hosting a night of fun, costumes, candy, face painting, and games at its Trunk-or-Treat event.
Don’t forget to sign up the keiki for the Candy Crawl on Halloween evening at Keauhou Shopping Center in Kona that will feature trick-or-treating, live entertainment and other free family fun.
Plus, there are plenty of haunted attractions to scare those who dare to enter or walk the terrifying trail.

- The Great Escape with the Hawai‘i Keiki Museum
Oct. 28-31, Kings’ Shops, Waikōloa
Challenge your wits with spooky quizzes and puzzles created by the Hawai’i Keiki Museum. Adventurers can sign up at the museum and embark on a quest throughout the shops, competing for prizes and a $150 giveaway. It’s a boo-nanza of brain-teasing fun for all ages. - The Haunted Trail: Chapter 24 — Hide N Seek
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 27-31, Nani Mau Gardens, Hilo
Tropical beauty is possessed by the dead on this terrifying trail, where a sinister doll beckons you into a twisted game of hide and seek. Do you dare to play with evil? Venture misty pathways where the restless undead roam. The chilling cries of victims echo as grotesque beasts prepare a ghastly feast. Shadows lurk with evil spirits, eager to claim another soul. Keep moving and avoid getting trapped forever … because the doll is never far behind. Will you survive the night, or become another lost soul on the trail? Daylight hours are less intense so the entire family can enjoy the trail. Nighttime is the full-scare experience and recommended only for those 18 and older, unless accompanied by a parent. There will be bright flashing lights. No running allowed. No guests with known heart conditions. All guests must sign a personal liability waiver. The students of the Hilo High School Performing Arts Scaring Center welcome all banshees and ghouls to a truly terrifying experience. They’ve worked hard to show you such shocking sights, from zombies, skeletons and … weird little guys, so don’t waste any time. Come down this weekend to see for yourself. All proceeds go to a good claws! The event uses flashing lights, fog and loud noises, and part of the walking path involves a stairway. Cost: $5. - Big Island Boys Volleyball Club Haunted House
