Public tip to police leads to arrest of wanted East Hawai‘i man

Hawai‘i Island police have captured a Papa‘ikou man wanted for a violation of order and burglary.

Reported as a wanted man on Sept. 3, Jordan Kekolonahekuahiwielawemaikealohaa J. Botelho, 31, was taken into custody on Monday at 4:30 p.m. after personnel from the Area I Criminal Investigation Division received a tip from the public of Botelho leaving Honomū Town in a black Toyota 4Runner.

South Hilo patrol officers assisted with stopping the 4Runner in the area of Highway 19 and the Mill Road intersection. Botelho was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested without incident.

Since his arrest, Botelho was charged with the following:

  • Four counts of violating an order for protection
  • Two counts of first-degree burglary
  • First-degree terroristic threatening
  • Second-degree criminal tampering

Botelho’s bail was set at $9,500.

Botelho made his initial court appearance this afternoon; however, remains in custody on an additional pending criminal investigation involving the possession of a firearm.

Additionally, there are other investigations Botelho is suspected of being involved in that upon completion will be forwarded to the County Prosecutor’s Office with charges possibly filed at a later date.
