In case you haven’t heard or noticed, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park announced some great news at the end of last month as Kīlauea started to quiet down after its most recent heightened sesimic swarm activity.

The Maunaulu parking area has reopened.

Traffic was previously rerouted around cracks caused by the magma intrusion from July 22-25 along the volcano’s upper East Rift Zone. Chain of Craters Road was also again opened to traffic.

But don’t be top-gunning it.

The park reminds motorists to drive safely and obey all posted speed limitss. Motorcyclists especially should use extra caution and expect bumps and rough road conditions.

Parking is only allowed in designated parking spaces and pullouts. Visitors are reminded not to park along roadways.

Kīlauea is not erupting, and according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, additional seismic swarms can occur with little or no warning and result in another magma intrusion or an eruption of lava.
