A wind advisory is in effect for Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea till 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, northeast-to-east winds of 40 to 50 mph are sweeping the summits with gusts up to 60 mph.

Winds this strong can make driving and walking difficult. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

Those traveling to the summits should consider postponing till wind dies down. Those who must venture to the summits should be cautious while walking and driving.
