Hilo judge maintains $296,000 bail on Volcano man facing myriad of offenses including vehicle theft
A Hilo District Court judge maintained bail on a Volcano man facing a myriad of offenses including vehicle theft, leaving the scene of a traffic collision and fleeing from police.
On Monday, 43-year-old Rodley Ford made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody on $296,000 bail and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 10.
Charges stem from a series of crimes committed between July 3-4, including the theft of a Jeep originally reported stolen on May 18 from the Home Depot parking lot in Hilo, damaging a Toyota 4Runner and Toyota RAV-4, leaving the scene of a traffic collision involving bodily injury, and multiple offenses related to fleeing from police.
As the Complaint alleges, Ford is charged with 16 counts:
- First-degree theft
- First-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle
- Habitual property crime
- Possession of a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime
- Accidents involving bodily injury
- Two counts of first-degree criminal property damage
- First-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle
- Third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug
- Three counts of driving without a license
The most serious offenses, first-degree theft and first-degree criminal property damage, are class B felonies with a penalty of a 10-year prison term or four years probation and up to 18 months in jail.
