Update: Highway 190 reopens following head-on collision in North Kona

Update at 8:57 a.m. on June 28: The Hawaiʻi Police Department reports both directions of travel on Highway 190, between Pu‘ulani Drive and Pu‘ukala Street, are now open.

Hawai‘i Fire Department confirms two people were transported to the hospital.

Police remind motorists to drive safely.

Original post: A portion of Highway 190 in North Kona near Pu‘uanahulu is closed due to a two-vehicle crash early morning and is expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

The crash occurred between Pu’ulani Drive and Pu’ukala Street at mile marker 24. The road is closed between mile markers 23 and 25.

Motorists are advised to detour on Waikōloa Road.
