No injuries were reported following an early morning house fire in Puna where the structure was destroyed.

At 1:56 a.m., Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze in Hawaiian Acres Subdivision on the 16-1000 on Hopue Road. When crews arrived on scene they found a 900-square-foot single-story residential structure, owned by Akamai Permaculture Trust, engulfed in flames and collapsed to the ground.

Neighbors helped the male resident from the home who refused medical treatment.

Access to the house was through a narrow and windy driveway. Firefighters used a 500-foot-long 2.5-inch water supply line to douse the blaze. Crews from Engines 5 and 3 as well as Tanker 3 assisted in shuttling water.
