Nighttime runway work is scheduled at Hilo International Airport.

According to Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, the airport’s primary runway, 8/26, will be closed Monday through Wednesday as crews will be working on improving takeoff and taxiway operations. The closure starts at 9 p.m. each night. The runway reopens at 5:30 a.m., weather permitting.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation reports nighttime runway work at the Hilo During the closure the alternate runway, 3/21, will be used for aircraft operations.

The state has scheduled this maintenance work at night to minimize impacts on air travelers and airline operations and to reduce the project duration to the extent possible. We must be done to ensure safety for all aircraft operations.
