A Ka‘ū man facing terroristic threatening and burglary charges in connection with a weekend standoff with police in Ocean View has been released from custody.
Kamren Forest Adams of Ocean View made his initial court appearance Tuesday morning in Kona District Court. The 32-year-old was granted supervised release, despite objections from prosectors.

The presiding judge also granted an exam to determine Adams’ fitness to proceed in the case and his penal responsibility. Examiners were appointed and court proceedings were suspended while the fitness exam is conducted.
Adams was ordered to return for a hearing at 1 p.m. June 19 in Kona District Court after examiners have submitted reports.

The Ocean View man was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree terroristic threatening after being arrested following the hourslong standoff Sunday at a home in the 92-2800 block of Alaoli Drive in Ocean View.
The Hawai‘i Police Department Special Response Team and crisis negotiators were called to the residence after Adams barricaded himself inside. Several hours later, he came out of the home voluntarily and was taken into custody without further incident.
First-degree burglary is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or 4 years probation and 18 months in jail.
