Flood advisory issued for Hilo and Hāmākua Districts
3:16 p.m. May 13 update: A flood advisory in East Hawai‘i has been extended to 6:15 p.m.
At 3:06 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over portions of windward and southeastern Big Island, where rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Heavy showers are nearly stationary over Pāhala, causing rapid water rises in Pa‘auau
Gulch. Additional heavy showers are also near Hakalau, while more widespread moderate rain prevails elsewhere.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honoka‘a, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Papa‘ikou, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park,
Kea‘au, Hawaiian Acres, Pepe‘ekeo, Honomū, Orchidlands Estates, Hakalau, Ninole, Laupahoehoe and Wood Valley.

At 1:56 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over portions of windward Big Island, especially over the Hilo and Hamakua Districts, where rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honoka‘a, Papa‘ikou, Honomū, Pepe‘ekeo, Pi‘ihonua, Hakalau, Glenwood, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Wainaku and O‘okala.
Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams is expected. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
This advisory may need to be extended if flooding persists.
