9:24 p.m. May 12 update: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has canceled the flood advisory for South Hilo and Puna Districts.
Original post: A flood advisory is in effect for portions of East Hawai‘i till 7:30 p.m.
At 4:22 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over the South Hilo and Puna Districts. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres, Kea‘au, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Orchidlands Estates, Papa‘ikou, Pepe‘ekeo, Honomū, Pāhoa, Hakalau, Wood Valley, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Ninole, Laupahoehoe and Pāhala.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 7:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
