Road boring for Waipʻio Valley Road project planned for early May

A first step for a safety enhancement project on Waipiʻo Valley Road will begin in early May.

Geotechnical engineering firm Geolabs will conduct road boring work along the Big Island roadway between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 9-10.

Work will involve drilling into the road to evaluate the soil and rock composition and assess the safety and stability of the road’s foundation. The findings from this analysis will help guide future improvements, ensuring the road’s durability and resilience against natural elements and heavy usage while improving safety for residents and visitors alike.

To maintain safety and minimize disruptions during the project, one-lane closures will be in place.

Trained flaggers will be stationed at strategic locations to manage traffic flow. The borings work will be carried out in four distinct areas along Waipiʻo Valley Road, with brief closures of 15-20 minutes as equipment is moved from one site to the next.
