Update: Winter weather advisory on Hawai‘i Island summits extended

6:57 a.m. April 15 update: A winter weather advisory for the Hawai‘i Island summits was extended till 11 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, there will be periods of snow, low visibility and slick roads. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch are expected.

The summits’ high wind warning was also extended till Tuesday at 6 a.m. due to west winds coming in at 60 to 70 mph with localized gusts to 90 mph.

A winter weather advisory is in effect till 6 a.m. Monday for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Periods of snow, low visibility, and slick roads are expected as well as up to two inches of snow.

A high wind warning is all in effect, starting at noon till 6 p.m. Monday, for the summits. The National Weather Service in Honolulu reports west winds of 50 to 65 mph with localized gusts to 90 mph.
