Big Island man faces charges after reportedly stealing Toyota 4Runner and ATV

A Honomū man is facing charges after reportedly stealing a Toyota 4Runner and a Honda all-terrain vehicle. He was also found in possession of over one-eighth of an ounce of methamphetamine.

According to Hawai‘i County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Kris Villasista, 48, stole the 4Runner from a Honoka‘a residence sometime around March 1 and the ATV from an O‘okala residence sometime around March 4.

Villasista is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Hilo District Court this afternoon. He remains in custody in lieu of $130,000 bail.

As the complaint alleges, Villasista was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of first-degree theft
  • Two counts of first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle
  • Second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug
  • Habitual property crime

Theft and drug charges are both class B felonies which carry a maximum penalty of a 10-year prison term. If convicted as charged, Prosecutors have provided notice that Villasista is subject to a mandatory prison term and will not be eligible for probation.
