The Hawai‘i Department of Health is retesting waters at Kailua Pier Station D in Kona on the Big Island after levels of 137 per 100 mL of bacteria were detected during routine beach monitoring.

The Health Department is uncertain about the representativeness of the first sample. This beach has historically met the acceptable beach threshold level and there is no known source of fecal contamination.

Therefore, the department has collected another sample and is retesting the site. The public will be updated based on the results of this retesting.
