Update at 4:49 p.m. Dec. 14: The Hawai‘i Department of Health has canceled the high bacteria count notification for Kailua Pier. Water sample retesting showed that enterococci levels no longer exceed the threshold level.

Original post: The Hawai‘i State Department of Health is retesting Kailua Pier as bacteria levels of 150 per 100 mL were detected during routine beach monitoring.

The state agency is uncertain about the representativeness of the first sample as the beach historically meets the acceptable threshold level, and there is no known source of fecal contamination.

Another sample was collected and is being retested. The Department of Health will update the notification based on the results of this retesting.
