Big Island Now poll No. 39: What are your plans for a Christmas tree this holiday season?
Ho, ho, ho. It’s that time of the year again when many individuals and families celebrate the holidays with festivities that include decorating a Christmas tree.
Varieties include the traditional fir, as well as pine, spruce, cedar and cypress. There also is the artificial tree, the “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree, and the makeshift tree where poor roommates decorate a plant.
There are several places to get local trees on the Big Island, including the Hooluana Tree Farm in Mountain View, the Hamakua Christmas Tree Forest in Nīnole and the Monkowski Farm in Holualoa. Of course, there are old standby lots at the big box stores or nonprofits setting up temporary lots to raise funds.
Once you get the tree, not matter the type, it’s time to decorate it. According to Better Homes & Gardens, some of the trends for decorating trees in 2023 include: flocked and frosted, tall and skinny, classic green and illuminated.
