Update: Pōhakuloa Training Area fire 50% contained

2:30 p.m. update: The Training Area 15 fire is 40 acres and 50% contained primarily by 25th Infantry Division aircraft bucket drops. Firefighters remain on site to monitor situation. There are no structural damages nor injuries.

Original post: A brush fire of less than 100 acres is burning within Pōhakuloa Training Area this morning resulting in military training being halted and service members being evacuated from the area.

According to officials, the fire started early this morning in the area of mile marker 41 along Daniel K. Inouye Highway and is well within the Pōhakuloa Training Area. It is contained by roads in the area.

According to officials the area does not contain much fuel and is inaccessible currently, but firefighters are on scene to continue monitoring the situation.

No structural damages nor injuries reported at this time. Aircraft from the 25th Infantry Division is en route from O‘ahu as a precautionary measure.
