Puna man charged with sexual assault of an elderly woman
A Puna man, 60 year-old Troy Young, has been charged with offenses related to the sexual assault of a mentally defective 88 year-old woman.
The incident allegedly occurred on Oct. 12 at a Puna residence.
Young was charged with Sexual Assault in the First Degree (knowingly subjected to sexual penetration, a person who was mentally defective) and Attempted Sexual Assault in the First Degree.
“Mentally defective” means a person suffering from a disease, disorder, or defect which renders the person incapable of appraising the nature of the person’s conduct.
Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Attempted Sexual Assault in the First Degree are
both class A felony offenses and carry a penalty of a twenty-year prison term.
Young is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Monday afternoon in Hilo District
Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.
