Kona Dance and Performing Arts to host a weekend of dance classes with the pros
Kona Dance and Performing Arts will host a weekend full of dance classes where participants learn from some of the best in the business.
World-renowned teaching artists, Roman Vasquez and Charlene Rose, are visiting the Big Island from Los Angeles Sept. 9-10. They will be hosting a variety of classes for students ages 13 and up as well as providing adults-only classes.
Class rates:
- $20 for a 60-minute class
- $30 for a 90-minute class
- $75 for any three classes
Sept. 9
- Intermediate/Advanced Musical Theatre Jazz with Charlene Rose (ages 13 and up) 12-1:30 p.m.
- Adult Hip Hop with Roman Vasquez (ages 16 and up) 1:45-2:45 p.m.
- Teen Hip Hop Adult Hip Hop with Roman Vasquez (ages 13 and up) 3-4:30 p.m.
Sept. 10
- Open Level Hip Hop with Roman Vasquez (ages 16 and up) 12-1:30 p.m.
- Salsa with Charlene Rose (ages 13 and up) 1:45-2:45 p.m.
- Burlesque with Charlene Rose (ages 18 and up) 3-4:30 p.m.
Coming from Los Angeles, Vasquez has worked for artists such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Celine Dion, BackStreet Boys, Eva Longoria, Roselyn Sanchez, Anastasia. Other television/film and video credits include American Music Awards, MTV Music Awards, Kids Choice Awards, Pepsi, Sprite, EL Pollo Loco, Days of Our Lives, Rock the Reception, Bring it On 5, Indiana Jones 4, Mobbed and Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D.
Stage shows including EFX with Michael Crawford and David Cassidy, Splash, Christina Aguilera Tour, Jessica Simpson Promo stage show. He has also choreographed and performed with companies such as Nike, FUBU, Adidas, Red-kin and Paul Mitchell.
Vasquez continues to choreograph and teach across the country at workshops and dance conventions.
Charlene Rose is a well-known and respected influence in the Latin dance scene.
Rose, at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, has received the Golden Salsa Award for “Best Female Salsa Dancer,” World Salsa Champion and Final 50 Contestant on FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Rose has worked on such hit shows as “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”, “Young and the Restless”, “Dexter”, Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” to name a few, and has choreographed for such hit shows as Dancing with the Stars, the Netflix original series, Sense8, of which she was nominated for a World Choreography Award, and a soon to be released movie musical Paradise; A Town of Sinners and Saints.
Rose also received an award for “Best Actress in a Feature Film” at the Glendale International Film Festival for her work on the award-winning film “The Bride from Vegas.”
