Hawai’i Gov. Josh Green notified all State Department and Agency Heads that due to severe wildfires affecting the Island of Maui, nonessential state employees on the Island do not need to report to work from Aug. 10 – 13.

Employees affected by the closing of those offices should not report to work and shall be granted administrative leave, except for departmental disaster and emergency coordinators, disaster response workers, and employees whose work involves continuing crucial operations/services, such as hospital workers, and correctional workers.

Employees who fall into one of the above categories are required to report to work, unless otherwise notified by their direct supervisor.

Green has also ordered that the United States flag and the Hawai‘i state flag be flown at half-staff at the Hawai‘i State Capitol and at all state offices and agencies, as well as at Hawai‘i National Guard facilities in the State of Hawai‘i, effective immediately, in mourning of those lost from the Maui wildfires.
