High bacteria levels have been detected at Kailua Pier, Sta. A, in Kailua-Kona, during a routine beach monitoring.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health is retesting the waters as they are uncertain of the accuracy of the first sample. While levels are currently at 1,298 per 100 mL, state officials say the beach has historically met the acceptable beach threshold level, and there is no known source of fecal contamination.

The new water sample has been collected and officials say they will notify the public of the results of the new testing.
