Kohala Swimming Pool to reopen this month after being closed nearly 2 years
After being closed for almost 2 years because of numerous system failures in the pump room, the Kohala Swimming Pool at Kamehameha Park in Kapaʻau will reopen Aug. 12.
The pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 2 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
The pool’s reopening was made possible by the support of the Friends of Kohala Pool group, which has contributed in several ways ranging from from dedicated planning efforts to significant fundraising campaigns and hands-on construction work.
“The reopening of the Kohala Swimming Pool is a testament to what we can achieve when we work hand-in-hand with community partners,” said Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth in a press release. “This is a win for everyone, especially for the community members who eagerly await the chance to once again enjoy this valuable resource.”
The pool was initially closed Jan. 12, 2022.
“We are immensely grateful for the determination, resilience and unity shown by the Friends of Kohala Pool and the local community during this challenging period,” added Hawaiʻi County Parks and Recreation Department Director Maurice Messina.
The community is invited to a grand reopening celebration at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 12 at the pool.
