Update: Hawai’i Fire Department reports Old Volcano Road and Nahelenani Street in upper Puna has reopened. It had been closed due to a brush fire.

Fire crews remain on scene as they continue working the fire.

Original post: Hawai’i County Civil Defense announced Thursday that a road was closed due to a brush fire in upper Puna on Old Volcano Road in the area of the 24 to 25.5 Mile Markers between Nahelenani Street and Ali`i Anela Street.

Fire personnel are currently on scene and actively fighting the fire.

Residents in the neighboring areas may experience power disruption due to utility lines being involved.

The Hawai’i County Fire Department has closed the intersection of Nahelenani Street and Old Volcano Road.

No structures are threatened and there are no evacuations requested at this time.
