Big Island Now Poll #14: What is your favorite creature that lives in the ocean around Hawaiʻi?
World Ocean Day takes place on June 8. The concept was originally proposed in 1992 by two Canadian organizations at the Earth Summit in Brazil. In 2008, “World Oceans Day” was officially recognized by the United Nations.
The international day supports the implementation of worldwide Sustainable Development Goals and fosters public interest in the protection of the ocean and the sustainable management of its resources.
On the Big Island, of course surrounding by the ocean, the 2nd annual World Ocean Day event will take place on June 10 in Kalākaua Park, from 10 a.m. to 2 .m. the 2023 theme is Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing.
