What summer vacation destination was No. 1 in the Big Island Now poll?

In Big Island Now’s Poll No. 13, we asked: Where are you going on your summer vacation?

Sadly, the top response with 27% of the 522 votes was “I don’t have a summer vacation.” One person commented: “Back yard.”

The next top vote getter was “Staycation on Big Island” at 18%. A person wrote on Facebook: “Right here, baby” with a shaka.

So for the 55% who are planning to get away from Hawai’i Island, the majority are planning to visiting family on the mainland.

Other Hawaiian Islands got 10% of the vote. Hawaiʻi’s 9th Island — Las Vegas — garnered 6%. At the bottom was visiting Mickey Mouse, at only 1%

Fifty-one people said they were going place not on our list. While one person said “anywhere but Florida,” another said to the Florida Keys where they have “the most beautiful coral reefs.”

Another person said they are sailing to the Channel Islands off the coast of California.
