20-year-old woman charged with domestic violence on Big Island

Cherish Anela Torres

Cherish Anela Torres, 20 of Pāhoa, has been arrested and charged with domestic-related offenses following a 3 a.m. verbal argument that turned violent.

On May 23, according to police, Torres and the victim were stopped in a vehicle at the intersection of Ohiki Street and Puni Makai Loop in Pāhoa. Torres reportedly pulled the keys out of the ignition, sat on top of the victim’s lap and struck him multiple times with a closed handed fist to the top of his head. 

While attempting to have Torres removed from the vehicle, the victim was cut with an unknown type sharp instrument to his right forearm causing an approximate 6-inch cut. Torres also reportedly threatened to kill the victim.

On Thursday morning, Hawaiʻi Island police charged Torres with the following offenses:

  • second-degree assault
  • felony abuse family household member
  • second-degree terroristic threatening

Torresʻ initial court appearance was held May 26. Her bail was set at $3,500.
