Overdue repairs to Hilo fire station force temporary location this summer
The Hawaiʻi Fire Department is establishing a temporary fire station in Hilo while the Central Fire Station undergoes long-overdue repairs.
The temporary location will be at 1382 Kīlauea Street and be in operation beginning this summer.
“This temporary fire station is necessary to ensure that we can continue to respond to emergencies in a timely and effective manner,” Hawaiʻi Fire Department Fire Chief Kazuo Todd said in a news release.
Central Fire Station is located at 466 Kinoʻole Street.
For questions or concerns about the temporary fire station, the public can contact the fire department at fire@hawaiicounty.gov or by phone at 808-932-2900.
There also will be a public meeting on May 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Aupi Center Conference Room (101 Pauahi Street) in Hilo, where Todd will answer questions and address concerns.
