Jon Paul Mangarin of Rainy Day Landscaping feeds the wood chipper while more than a dozen
community volunteers of Waimea Trails and Greenways bring brush from the sides of Ke Ala Kahawai O Waimea – the streamside trail of Waimea.

Fallen trees were taken out of the stream bed several weeks ago by soldiers of the 84th Engineering Battalion, who volunteered after completing training at Pōhakuloa Training Area. This helps keep debris from piling up and hindering stream flow.

Community volunteers gathered on Earth Day to convert the debris into wood chips for the trail surface.
