American Heart Association to host virtual panel discussion on workforce well-being

The American Heart Association will host on April 26 a free virtual Workforce Well-Being Panel Discussion.

The discussion from 12 to 1 p.m. will share ways Hawaiʻi employers are building cultures for employees to thrive through wellness programs.

The virtual event is designed to help provide workplace wellness committee members, human resources professionals and other staffing implementers with ideas, tools and actions for implementing or enhancing wellness programs that support their company’s employee’s health and enhance their productivity.

The panel discussion will be hosted by Zia Khan, M.D., chief of Queen’s Heart Institute and American Heart Association Hawaiʻi Division Board president.

Featured panel participants include:

  • Derek Kanehira, senior vice president, Human Resources at Alexander & Baldwin.
  • Michael Story, senior workplace wellness advisor at UHA Health Insurance.
  • Lauren Nahme, vice president of Strategy and Innovation at Kamehameha Schools.

The panelists will share the unique ways they are ensuring that wellness is a priority for their employees.

Janis Kushimi, vice president, Human Resources at First Insurance Company of Hawaiʻi, will kick off the discussion by sharing information on the companyʻs holistic approach to employee wellness and how this has benefited the company and their employees. 

“First Insurance Company of Hawaiʻi is honored to have received gold level recognition through the American Heart Association Well-Being Works Better Scorecard for our commitment to employee health and well-being,” said Kushimi.

“We look forward to connecting with other local employers around employee well-being and having more Hawaiʻi companies receive national recognition for their wellness efforts in the future.”
