Update: Flood advisory issued for South Kona now canceled

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the South Kona District till 8:30 p.m.
At 5:23 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over the South Kona District with showers falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Additional heavy showers are expected into early evening. Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Hōnaunau, Kealakekua, Kainaliu, Honalo, Kahalu‘u-Keauhou, Hōlualoa, Kalaoa, Miloli‘i and Hawaii Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.
Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas and in streams is expected. The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 8:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
