Update: Winter weather advisory canceled for Big Island summits

Updated at 3:45 p.m. on April 3: The National Weather Service has canceled the winter weather advisory for the Big Island summits.

Original post: A winter weather advisory initiated Sunday afternoon has been extended till this evening.

Webcams from the University of Hawai‘i show several inches of snow have fallen on Mauna Kea overnight and according to the National Weather Service, an additional two inches is expected.

Motorists driving in the area of the summits are advised of slippery road conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
