Big Island summits getting more snow today — up to 8 inches

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Big Island summits until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Yet another surge of deep moisture will move over the Big Island on Friday, combining with a relatively low freezing level to bring periods of heavy snow, with freezing rain also possible at times.

Heavy mixed precipitation is forecast, including accumulations of snow up to 8 inches and ice accumulations of around two tenths of an inch.

Roads will be snow covered and dangerously slippery, and visibility will be reduced to near zero at times.
