Update: Flood advisory for parts of West Hawai‘i canceled
Updated at 8:23 p.m. on Feb. 12: The National Weather Service has canceled the flood advisory.
Original post: A flood advisory is in effect until 9:30 p.m. for portions of West Hawai‘i.
At 6:26 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over portions of North Kona and South Kona districts. Heaviest rainfall was between Keahole Point to near Keauhou. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. According to the National Weather Service, areas that will experience flooding include: Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Honalo, Hōlualoa, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Kahalu‘u-Keauhou, Hōnaunau, Kalaoa, Pu‘uanahulu, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Kona International Airport, Waikōloa Beach, Mauna Lani and Hawai‘i Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.
Impacts include minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams. The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 9:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
