Suspected stove fire damages Pāhoa home
A single-story home in Pāhoa was severely damaged after a suspected stove fire set the structure ablaze Wednesday afternoon.
Hawai‘i Fire Department responded the fire, located on Silversword Drive in Ainaloa Subdivision, at 3:39 p.m. When crews arrived on scene they found a 30-foot-by 40-foot wood structure involved in flames. Company 10 began extinguishing the blaze while crews from engines 18 and 5 provided additional water and manpower.
Hawai‘i Police Department arrived on scene to help create a safe scene during fire extinguishment operations. The fire was extinguished and overhaul completed.
According to fire officials, the residence seemed to be in normal use but no one was found in the home. The owner arrived on scene near the end of extinguishment operations and confirmed that no one was home at the time of the fire. A neighbor was able to safely remove a pet dog from the property prior to Hawai‘i fire’s arrival.
Fire officials estimate $210,000 in damage.
