Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Park hosting evening talk with geologist Frank Trusdell

As part of Volcano Awareness Month, Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park will host a free evening program on Jan. 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the park’s amphitheater.

Geologist Frank Trusdell with the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory will talk about the historic 2022 eruption of Mauna Loa and what we’ve learned from it.

The eruption was Mauna Loa’s first in 38 years and the first to be monitored with modern instruments.

The eruption followed previous eruption patterns, beginning in the summit caldera and migrating to a rift zone. Learn what this eruption has taught us about Mauna Loa and how it can help us better prepare for the next eruption of the world’s largest active volcano.
