Free Spring afterschool programs at Kealakehe and Konawaena elementary schools

Laʻi‘ōpua 2020 will again offer a free Afterschool Enrichment Program at Konawaena and Kealakehe elementary schools in Spring 2023 for students in kindergarten through 5.

The program runs Jan. 9 through May 19, 2023. Program days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 2 to 5 p.m. 

The interactive curriculum focuses on three main areas: Hawaiian language/culture, STEAM (science, technology, engineering and math) and literacy.

The mission of La‘i‘ōpua 2020 is to identify community needs, foster the creation of community facilities and coordinate programs for Department of Home Lands Beneficiaries, Native Hawaiians and those residing in the greater Kona Coast community.

La‘i‘ōpua 2020 has secured a Native Hawaiian Education grant through the U.S. Department of Education to offer afterschool and summer enrichment programs which support academic achievement for students in the Konawaena and Kealakehe Complex areas.

La‘i‘ōpua 2020 is also seeking qualified individuals interested in working with keiki during its Spring 2023 afterschool enrichment program as instructional leaders, instructional assistants, instructional aides and custodians. These positions are temporary, seasonal and contingent upon future grant awards.
