A high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday has been extended to Tuesday at 6 a.m.

The advisory is for south-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island from Keahole Point in North Kona south through Ka‘ū to Cape Kumukahi in Puna through Tuesday.

Beachgoers can expect strong breaking waves, shore break and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should exercise caution and heed all advice given by Ocean Safety Officials.

Beaches may be closed without notice.
