Female Found Pinned Between Car, Gate Post in Kea‘au Dies

Hawai‘i police are investigating a public accident involving a single motor vehicle that left a female dead.

The incident occurred Monday, Aug. 15, at 6:43 p.m., in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in the area of 23rd Avenue and Paradise Drive in Kea‘au. Witnesses observed a female standing between her vehicle, a Chevy Malibu, and the gate post to her residence.

“Upon contact, the female appeared to have been pinned and was unresponsive at the scene,” HPD stated in a press release Tuesday. “She was transported to Hilo Medical Center where she was pronounced dead later the same day at 10:59 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.”

The identity of the female is being withheld until the next of kin is located and notified.

The East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and although no foul play is suspected at this time, they will continue to examine the evidence and facts relative to any additional contributing factors to this incident.
